Southland Conference Television Network Earns National Mention
ATLANTA, Ga. - The Southland Conference Television Network, the league's three-year-old in-house broadcasting effort, picked up a national honorable mention award at the College Sports Video Summit on Tuesday.
In the category of Professional Live Event, the Southland Network's entry of the 2010 Stephen F. Austin State vs. Sam Houston State "Battle of the Piney Woods" football game from Houston's Reliant Stadium, earned honorable mention alongside ESPN's coverage of the 2011 NCAA Women's Final Four and The Mountain West Sports Network's broadcast of the TCU-BYU men's basketball game.
Finalists in the category included a pair of entries from ESPN, the 2011 Rose Bowl and Big East Basketball Tournament, as well as entries from the YES Network, Turner Sports and the Big Ten Network.
"This was a real step-up in class for our network, and we're honored to be considered with such elite broadcasting company," Southland commissioner Tom Burnett said. "For an in-house start-up such as ours, it's really amazing to be mentioned with these entities."
The Southland Network won a 2010 College Sports Video award for its live coverage of the McNeese State vs. Stephen F. Austin football game in the 2009 season.
