Lamar Notes: Lamar opened the season with a
58-0 victory over Texas College last Saturday ... its 58-point winning margin
was the largest in school history, exceeding the 48 points by which the 1953
Cardinals won over Mexico Poly ... DePauldrick Garrett's 105-yard rushing
effort against Texas College was Lamar's first 100-yard game since Danny Faust
ran for 130 yards against West Texas A&M in 1989 ... Lamar totaled 320
yards on offense, including 209 yards rushing ... the Cardinal defense limited
the Steers to five first downs (two by penalty), 45 rushing yards and a total
of 64 yards on 51 plays for an average gain of 1.8 yards per play ... Lamar

... the 82-point outburst against McMurry was the second-highest point total in

without former QB Jeremy Moses proved to be no problem for the Lumberjacks in
the season-opener as Brady Attaway and Dalton Williams combined to complete
45-of-63 (.714) passes for 507 yards and seven touchdowns ... SFA's 507 passing
yards and 668 yards of total offense are the fifth-best single-game marks in
school history ... the seven touchdown passes in the game ranks third in school

38-14 win against Henderson State on Thursday, Sept. 1 ... UCA debuted its new

Bears improved to 46-37-3 against its old in-state rival ... UCA quarterbacks
completed passes to 10 different receivers in the game ... QB Nathan Dick thre
for 280 yards and three scores against the Reddies ... the Bears played without
starting RB Jackie Hinton, who is battling a hamstring injury, and starting
offensive guard Joe Lehocky (knee) ... red-shirt freshman kicker Eddie Camara

The Colonels cruised to a 42-0 shutout of Evangel in the season opener on
Thursday, Sept. 1 ... Nicholls picked up its first shutout since 2006, when it
blanked Assumption College, 44-0 ... the shutout marked the program's 19th
shutout ... Nicholls improved to 28-12 in its home openers ... the last time
the Colonels opened the season at home was in 2006 where they shut out Southern
Arkansas, 35-0 ... QB LaQuintin Caston ran for 137 yards on 16 carries against
Evangel and has topped 100 rushing yards in three consecutive games, accounting
for 410 yards and eight touchdowns ... for his career, the Colonels are 5-0
when Caston has recorded more than 100 yards rushing ... Nicholls totaled 422
yards of offense, including 326 yards rushing, which was tops in the conference
in week one ... this week, the Colonels will face Western Michigan of the FBS
for the second consecutive season ... Western Michigan won 49-14 last year ...
Nicholls has two wins over FBS programs, defeating Arkansas State in Thibodaux,

The Demons fought back from a 17-0 halftime deficit to claim a 24-23 victory
over Delta State ... JC transfer QB Brad Henderson completed a school-record 13
consecutive passes to spark the rally ... the Demons scored on four of their
first five possessions after intermission to take a 24-17 lead ... Northwestern
escaped with the win when Delta State, last year's Division II runnerup, could
not convert a two-point pass in going for the win ... the rally was the
second-biggest in school history since moving into Division I in 1977, topped
only by a 23-0 deficit to win 27-23 in the 2005 opener at Louisiana-Monroe ...
the victory was Northwestern's 499th all time ... Henderson finished 13-of-14

The Lions have opened the last two seasons with losses to Tulane, this time
47-33 ... last year's loss was 27-21 ... last Saturday, the teams combined for
812 yards and 44 first downs in a game that saw 21 Lions make their debuts ...
Southeastern QB Brian Young took the majority of the snaps for the Lions,
finishing 20-for-35 for 249 yards and a rushing touchdown ... Nathan Stanley
also made his debut, connecting on 5-of-9 passes for 46 yards ... WR Brandon
Collins reeled in a week-one, league-high nine passes for 94 yards ... RB Zeke
