Southland Conference Announces Football Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas - After leading the Bears to a 38-28 victory over two-time defending champion Stephen F. Austin, Central Arkansas linebacker Seth Allison and return specialist Isaiah Jackson were named the Southland Conference defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively, the league office announced Monday. Additionally, Lamar quarterback Andre Bevil was named the offensive player of the week after guiding the Cardinals to their first conference win since 1984.
 
 
Offensive Player of the Week: Andre Bevil, Lamar

For the second consecutive year, Bevil threw four touchdown passes in a come-from-behind road victory over Southeastern Louisiana. The senior from Orange, Texas (West Orange-Stark H.S.), had scoring strikes of 44 and 29 yards to receiver Marcus Jackson, 2 yards to tight end Payden McVey and 32 yards to running back Mike Venson. Bevil also rushed for a career-best 77 yards on eight carries, including a long run of 29 yards. He guided the Cardinals on touchdown drives of 43, 93, 80, 62, 80 and 24 yards as they accumulated a season-high of 561 total yards.

Defensive Player of the Week:  Seth Allison, Central Arkansas
Allison had eight tackles (seven solo) and returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown that gave the Bears a 21-6 halftime lead over SFA. The junior from Stuttgart, Ark. (Stuttgart H.S.), was in on one tackle for loss and leads the league with seven tackles for loss. With 42 tackles this season, Allison also ranks sixth in the Southland with an average of 8.4 tackles per game.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Isaiah Jackson, Central Arkansas
Jackson broke off a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown that gave the Bears a 14-6 second-quarter lead against the Lumberjacks. The senior from Conway, Ark. (Conway H.S.) totaled 174 yards on four kickoff returns, the third highest single-game total in school history. Jackson's return was the school's first kickoff return for a touchdown since 2006. The Bears' career leader in kickoff returns and yards also caught three passes for 35 yards to give him 209 all-purpose yards for the game.

Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
