Northwestern
State 37, Lamar 17
BEAUMONT, Texas - Like the surge of electricity that blew the
transformers near Lamar's Provost Umphrey Stadium earlier in the day,
Northwestern State sizzled decisively for a short period in a 37-17 Southland
Conference football win Saturday night.
Northwestern kicked into gear with a 20-point second quarter,
scoring three touchdowns in the final 10 minutes before halftime. The Demons
had 200 yards in the second period alone and a 27-7 halftime advantage.
That burst contained the greatest jolts in an elegantly efficient
290-yard, three touchdowns, and 26 of 34 with no interceptions passing
performance by Brad Henderson, and effectively carried Northwestern to a 2-1
league record and a 3-3 overall record.

Central Arkansas
37, Nicholls State 31
THIBODAUX, La. - A game that featured 68 points and 857 yards of
offense all came down to one defensive play on Saturday afternoon at Guidry
Stadium.
Central Arkansas held Nicholls State on fourth and goal from the 7 with 1:16
remaining to preserve a 37-31 victory in Southland Conference play. UCA won its
second consecutive conference game and improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in
league play.
The Bears took a 37-31 lead on a 16-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback
Nathan Dick to junior Dominique Croom with 10:06 remaining, UCA's first lead of
the day. The Bears had a chance to seal it with a short field after a shanked
punt by the Colonels but threw an interception in the end zone on their first
play from scrimmage. After forcing Nicholls to punt, the Bears stalled in their
own territory but went for it on fourth down and 1 from their own 33 with 1:38
to play.
Dick's quarterback keeper was inches short, giving the Colonels one last shot
at victory with 33 yards to go. After a roughing the passer penalty moved
Nicholls down to the 10, UCA held on three consecutive downs. Jestin Love and
Seth Allison then tackled Colonel receiver Nick Scelfo short of the first down
on fourth and goal at the 7 to hold on for the win.

Texas State 21, No.
13/15 McNeese State 14
LAKE CHARLES, La. - Texas State left Cowboy Stadium Saturday night
with a 21-14 non-conference victory over No. 13/15 McNeese State.
It was interesting, however, right up until the final seconds. Holding
their seven-point lead, the Bobcats were forced to punt from deep in their end
zone but punter Ben Follis bobbled the snap giving the Cowboys possession on
the 13-yard line with 15.6 seconds left.
However, with a one play shot, McNeese quarterback Cody Stroud was
rushed and was ruled to intentionally ground the ball with the clock running
out.
The loss left McNeese at 3-2. The victory was the fourth in a row
for the Bobcats and the third straight against a Southland Conference team.
Macus Wiltz scored both touchdowns for McNeese, both 9 yard runs. He
also wound up with 64 yards rushing. Andre Anderson led the Cowboys and the
game with 76 yards.
Rutherford led Texas State with 65 yards rushing and 110 yards
passing on an eight for 11 attempts. McNeese's Stroud was 13 of 27 for 145
yards and also tossed an interception. The Bobcats had 249 yards compared to
the Cowboys 365.
