FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls junior guard Ricshanda Bickham was named the Southland women's basketball player of the week by vote of the league's sports information directors the conference office announced Monday. Bickham's award marks her first and team's first on the season.

A native of New Orleans, La. Bickham led the Colonels against Stephen F. Austin with a career best 33 points, but most importantly, led Nicholls to its first win in conference play and first win ever against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. Bickham averaged 22.5 points per game on the week, coupled with a 50 percent showing from three-point territory and a 90.9 mark from the charity stripe.

Honorable mention this week goes to Central Arkansas freshman forward Megan Herbert, Lamar junior guard Jenna Plumley and UTSA sophomore guard Whitney York. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland women's basketball sports information directors.

Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
