THIBODAUX, La.
? All-American and SLC Defensive Player of the Year Kareem Moore will play in the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star game this Saturday in El Paso, Tex. at 4 p.m. on CSTV.
To view the game on College Sports Television, check with your local cable provider to see if the channel is offered by your cable company.
Also representing the Southland Conference in the all-star game will be offensive lineman Demetrius Bell from Northwestern State, offensive tackle Brock Pasteur from Stephen F. Austin, and punter Chris McDonald from Texas State.
It also marks the second consecutive year that Nicholls has had a representative in the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star game as former Colonel standout Jacob Bender participated in the game last year.
Bender was a selected by the New York Jets in the sixth round (177th overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft.
"It is a great opportunity for Kareem to play in the all-star game, and we are all pulling for him," said head coach Jay Thomas. "With Jacob (Bender) getting drafted and Toney (Edison) going on to play in the CFL last year and now Kareem having the same opportunity is huge. It shows that you can get to the next level from here."
Moore was a part of a historical season for the Colonels as they pulled off the biggest upset in school history at Rice, 16-14, and were ranked as high as No. 13 in the FCS polls. The Okolona, Miss. native led the team in tackles for the second consecutive season with 73 in 2007 to go along with four interceptions with two being returned for touchdowns.
The two interception returns for touchdowns came in the first quarter against Northwestern State en rout to a 58-0 victory over the Colonels’
in-state and conference rival. Fellow team mate and Buchanan Award Finalist Ladarius Webb followed Moore’s two interception returns for touchdowns with two of his own in the second quarter giving the Colonels a NCAA record four interception returns for touchdowns in the first half. It tied the NCAA record for most in a game, which was ironically held by Northwestern State.
For all of his accomplishments this season, Moore was named the 2007 Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year while also being selected to the All-SLC First Team as a safety. Moore, who was the 2006 SLC Newcomer of the Year, was also named an AP All-American and a LSWA Second Team selection.
