Sam Houston State Tops Demons In Game 4 Of SLC Tournament

HUNTSVILLE, Texas ? Sam Houston State took its fourth game of the season over Northwestern State in game four of the 2008 Southland Conference Baseball Tournament on their home field in Don Sanders Stadium Tuesday night.

 

The Bearkats took three regular season meetings over the Demons with a combined score of 19-7, and took the fourth match up 7-1.

 

Freshman pitcher Dallas Gallant pitched his second complete game of the season and team’s third giving up one run, three walks and four strikeouts.

 

Sam Houston State scored the first three runs of the game with a double by senior Todd Sebek in the third and singles by Braeden Riley and Ryan Weber in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.

 

The lone run by Northwestern State was manufactured in the top of the fifth inning as Roberto Gallegos doubled to left center scoring Joe Urtuzuastegui.

 

The Bearkats put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth as Weber doubled to left center followed by designated hitter Bobby Verbick receiving a free pass after being hit by a pitch. First team all conference selection Seth Hammock doubled down the left field line scoring both Weber and Verbick.

 

Sam Houston State will play in the 7 p.m. game Thursday night against eight seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Northwestern State will square off against top seed UTSA at noon Thursday as the loser will be eliminated from competition.
