SLU Eliminates UTA In Game 5 Of SLC Tournament
HUNTSVILLE, Texas ? Southeastern Louisiana rebounded from a ninth inning shock at the hands of Lamar on the first day of competition to eliminate UT Arlington in game five, 7-3.
UTA led after the first inning as SLC Freshman of the Year Michael Choice drove in his 51st RBI on the year with a single to left field scoring Brock Wilson, producing the game’s only run in the first three innings as Mavericks starter Andy Sauter no hit the Lions through three innings.
In the top of the fourth inning UTA added two more as designated hitter Steffan Guest doubled to left center driving in Matt Otteman followed by Evan Raley’s RBI single giving the Mavs a 3-0 lead.
Southeastern Louisiana got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with Brian McCants RBI single to right center driving in first baseman Josh Cryer.
In the sixth inning SLU tied the game, 3-3 as Cass Hargis crossed the plate complements of Ty Summerlin’s double to left center followed by a sacrifice RBI by Cryer scoring Brandon Street.
SLU put the game out of reach in the bottom of the seventh as the Lions Cass Hargis tripled to right center scoring two followed by Ty Summerlin doubling down the right field line sending Hargis home.
Conference strikeout leader and first team all conference selection Wade Miley added to his 110 regular season strikeout total sending nine Mavericks back to the dug out in the tournaments second complete game and Miley’s fourth on the year.
