FRISCO, Texas ? Southeastern Louisiana forward Warrell Span has been named the Southland Conference men’s basketball player of the week, the league office announced Monday.

Span tied a career-high with 20 points while playing a career-high 40 minutes in Southeastern’s 91-87 overtime loss at Arkansas last Friday. The senior from Patterson, La., scored 13 points on 6-for-7 aim against the Southeastern Conference school. The Lions led 38-36 at the half and held a nine-point lead with just under six minutes remaining. Span added two assists and a blocked shot as Southeastern swatted 11 Razorback attempts and nearly became the first opponent in 35 years to defeat Arkansas in its home opener.

Honorable mention this week goes to Sam Houston State’s Corey Allmond, Texas State’s Brent Benson and McNeese State’s John Pichon. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland men’s basketball sports information directors.

Each school’s SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player.
