Champion Voted Southland Women's Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas ? UTA senior forward Candice Champion was named the Southland Conference women’s basketball player of the week as voted upon by the league’s sports information directors. Following is a look at her performance from last week.

In a non-conference match-up against SMU, Tuesday night, Champion recorded a game-high 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and 6-of-10 from the free throw line in a huge 85-79 opening day victory at the Moody Coliseum in Dallas, Texas. Champion added eight defensive rebounds, two assists and three steals in 36 minutes of action.

This week’s honorable mentions are Jade Davis of Texas A&M-Corpus Chrsiti, Tammara Marion of Stephen F. Austin and Shante’ Perry of McNeese State. To receive an honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland women’s basketball sports information directors.

Each school’s SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player.
