Islander Jade Davis Named Women?s Basketball Player of the Week
FRISCO, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi junior guard Jade Davis was named the Southland women's basketball player of the week by vote of the league's sports information directors. Davis picks up the initial award of the 2009-10 season.
Davis, a native of West Columbia, Texas, led the Islanders to a 2-0 start after scoring 29 points against SEC opponent Alabama in a 96-90 overtime win to be crowned the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach Tip-Off Tournament Champions. Davis led the Islanders back from as many as 15 points down to the Crimson Tide. She averaged 19.5 points per game over the first two contests of the season and was named tournament MVP.
Honorable mention this week goes to Stephen F. Austin junior forward Jordan Ford, UT Arlington junior guard Tamara Simmons and UTSA junior forward Ashleigh Franklin. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland men's basketball sports information directors.
