Nicholls Sweeps Soccer Player of the Week Honors
FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls senior Kaity Mattsson was named the Southland Offensive Player of the Week, while senior Allison Mylius was named Defensive Player of the Week and junior Molly Mersereau earned Goalkeeper of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The Nicholls trio earned the first women's soccer accolades of the season.
Offensive Player of the Week - Kaity Mattsson, Nicholls
Mattsson became the first soccer player in Nicholls history to record a four-goal game, scoring four times in the Colonels' 8-0 win over Alcorn State on Sunday. For the week, the Bracebridge, Ontario native recorded seven shots, putting five on goal and scoring four times for a shot percentage of .571 and a shots on goal percentage of .714.
Honorable Mention: Ashlee Savona, Northwestern State; Kylie Louw, Stephen F. Austin; Laylla da Cruz, UTSA.
Defensive Player of the Week - Allison Mylius, Nicholls
Mylius led the Nicholls defense to consecutive shutout performances for the first time since 2006. After holding Prairie View A&M scoreless through 120 minutes of play Friday, the Colonels went on to an 8-0 win over Alcorn State on Sunday. The Baton Rouge, La., native also recorded her first career point since 2008 when she assisted Nicholls on its sixth goal of the day against Alcorn.
Honorable Mention: Brittany Prieto, Southeastern Louisiana.
Goalkeeper of the Week - Molly Mersereau, Nicholls,
Mersereau won Goalkeeper of the Week accolades after playing 120 minutes in goal in Friday night's double overtime season opener against Prairie View A&M. The Riverside Calif., native faced nine shots, stopping all four shots to hold the Lady Panthers scoreless.

Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
