UCA's Chloe Smith Named to Lowe's Senior Class Award
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Central Arkansas senior Chloe Smith is one of 30 NCAA women's volleyball student-athletes to be named a candidate for the first Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.
CLASS is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. The award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Smith, a right side hitter from San Diego, is the reigning two-time Southland Conference Player of the Year. Excelling in the classroom, she was named to the 2009 ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team, as well as winning the Southland Student-Athlete of the Year award the last two seasons.
Of the 30 seniors on the list, 12 come from preseason Top 25 programs
The candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans.
The Sugar Bears open the 2010 season at the UniWyo Wyoming Invite in Laramie on Friday morning.
