Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Drops a Pair of Midweek Matches

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 73 Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's tennis team was unable to get on track Monday night, falling to No. 56 New Mexico by a 7-0 final to conclude its four-match road trip in the state of New Mexico.
The Islanders moved to 2-2 with the loss, while New Mexico improved to 2-0 on the year with the win. Next up for the team will be a Jan. 25 match at No. 52 TCU before returning to Corpus Christi for the first home match of the year against No. 19 Texas on Feb 12.
Playing without No. 1 player Peter Nagy, who returned to Corpus Christi to attend class, and No. 6 player Nathan Robinson, who suffered an injury during doubles, the Islanders were forced to shuffle the lineup without two of their top six players. Aurelien Tave played the No. 1 spot, with Gergo Weidinger at No. 2, Matt Westmoreland at No. 3, Fernando Llorens at No. 4, Pietro Jordao at No. 5 and Andrew Maingot at No. 6 in singles.
TCU 4, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 2
FT. WORTH, Texas - The No. 68 Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's tennis team lost a hard-fought 4-2 match against No. 51 TCU in hostile territory on Wednesday night, playing in front of nearly 400 fans at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center for the Horned Frogs home opener. The Islanders were down 4-2 when the match was stopped due to time constraints, with the two coaches agreeing before the match to stop after the first team reached four points and to finish any matches that were close to completion.
In doubles action, Alex Pavlov and Nathan Robinson lost an 8-4 match at the No. 3 position to start the action. TCU then clinched the point with an 8-3 victory at No. 1 over Peter Nagy and Gergo Weidinger to make it a 1-0 score. Aurelien Tave and Matt Westmoreland competed until the end before falling 7-6 (7-4) at the No. 2 position.
In singles, the Islanders knotted the score at 1-1 when Weidinger won at the No. 3 position after his opponent retired from the match. Fernando Llorens also came out on top at No. 5 singles, winning his fourth match in five tries with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) final.
