The Stephen F. Austin (3-2) women's tennis team was near flawless Saturday morning shutting out North Texas, 7-0, at the Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton, Texas.
 
"UNT is a very good team," said head coach Patrick Sullivan. "The score does not accurately indicate how close the match really was. North Texas lost to No. 25 Oklahoma, 4-3, just a couple of days ago so this team is very talented.
 
The 'Jacks scored the doubles point but had to rally for the score. After falling by a score of 8-6 at No. 3 doubles, the duo of senior Alina Shazhko and freshman Jithmie Jayawickrema defeated Nadia Lee and Franzi Sprinkmeyer, 8-6 to even the doubles matches. The tandem of freshmen Tereza Bekerova and Malena Gordo secured the point with their 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.

The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team recorded a 6-1 decision over Colorado Sunday afternoon in Houston, Texas. The victory moves the 'Jacks to 4-2 (.667) on the young season.
 
"It's always tough to bounce back from an emotional win like the one we had yesterday," said head coach Patrick Sullivan. "I felt we did a really good job getting up for this match. Obviously, playing a Pac 12 school made it a bit easier to be motivated and we did a great job of asserting ourselves early. This is a great win, and a great weekend for our program. We're definitely excited about the direction of the program."
 
For a second consecutive day, the 'Jacks' doubles play was strong giving SFA an early 1-0 advantage. The 'Jacks surrendered only eight games in the three doubles matches.

TCU 6, Texas State 1
Fort Worth, Texas- The Texas State women's tennis team put up a valiant fight before falling 6-1 in their season-opening match at 47th-ranked TCU on the indoor courts of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth.
 
Texas State scored the first point in the match when the Bobcats won two of their three doubles matches.  The match began with first-year players Rachel Baldree and Francesca Bernes win the No. 3 doubles match, 8-2, over Gabi Fernandez and Molly Welsh.
 
TCU won the No. 2 doubles match when Simona Parajova and Stefanie Tan edged Texas State's tandem of Mariana Perez and Gabriela Rojas 8-5.
 
The Bobcats captured the doubles point with their top doubles team of Melissa Hadad and Jessica Kahts defeating No. 57-ranked Federica Denti and Kelsey Sundaram 9-7.

Rice 7, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 0
CORPUS CHRISTI - The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's tennis team opened the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center in front of a program-record 241 fans against No. 70 Rice on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-0 to the Owls.

"This was a great college tennis event today," said Director of Tennis Steve Moore. "This community and University is incredible, with over 240 people showing up at this match.

"Our girls fought like crazy. Give credit to Rice, they played extremely tough today. We have a very, very good team, I believe the best we've ever had."

The Islanders move to 1-1 on the year with the setback, while the Owls improve to 3-0 on the year. The first match at the new facility set a new attendance record for a women's contest since starting the program.

McNeese State
Louisiana Monroe 6, McNeese State 1  
MONROE, La-  McNeese State's women's tennis team dropped its season opener to UL-Monroe 6-1 here Saturday. 

The Cowgirls dropped the double point by losing two of three.  McNeese then dropped five of the six singles with its only point coming at the no. 6 singles.Marcella Castaldi defeated Isabelle Rocher 6-2, 6-3.

Louisiana Tech 5, McNeese State 2
RUSTON, La.-  McNeese State's women's tennis team  fell 5-2 to Louisiana Tech here Sunday to drop the Cowgirls to 0-2 on the season. 

McNeese dropped the doubles point by dropping two of three matches.  The Cowgilrls picked up their points off a Tea Tvrtkovic 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 win over Laura Fernandez at the no. 1 spot and a victory by Diana Pirciu who won after Melanie Urvov retired after trailing 5-2 in the second set.  Pirciu dropped the first set 5-7.

TCU 6, Lamar 1
FORT WORTH, Texas -
Alessandra Pennesi registered the only point for the Lamar University women's tennis team in a 6-1 non-conference loss at 47th-ranked TCU on Sunday.

Pennesi, playing at No. 6 singles, cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over TCU's Gaby Fernandez.

At No. 1 singles, Lamar's Carolina Salas dropped a hard-fought 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 decision to Olivia Smith, who is ranked 114th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Federation (ITF).

"We played better today as a team, but TCU was relentless in its execution and refused to lose a point," Lamar coach David Wong said. "We had many opportunities in different positions to rebound back but came up short in committing to the strategy. I am hopeful that we will accomplish this task and when this happens, we will be a tough team to beat."
