Knight Named Southland Men's Tennis Player of the Week
FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls State junior Roy Knight has been named the Southland Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
The Bodmin, England, native, opened the season undefeated in singles play, picking up consecutive-set wins at the No. 5 and No. 3 positions. Knight garnered a 6-0, 6-1 win against Hanno Bartsch of South Alabama on Thursday and followed that with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Oral Roberts' Oscar Witzand on Friday.
Also against Oral Roberts, Knight and teammate Sidharth Sivakumar blanked their No. 2 doubles opponents 8-0. Knight led the Colonels to a season-opening 1-1 record.
Honorable mention this week goes to Lamar senior Denis Ermilov and UTSA junior Tyler Brown. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland men's tennis sports information directors.
Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
