Perry Named Southland Women?s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas ? McNeese State senior Shante’ Perry was named the Southland Conference women’s basketball player of the week as voted upon by the league’s sports information directors. Perry receives her first weekly award of the season and team’s first after posting the top single-game scoring mark in the conference with 39 points against Louisiana Tech.

 

Perry tied a McNeese single-game scoring record and scored a career-high 39 points to lead the Cowgirls to a 71-66 home victory over Louisiana Tech.  Perry set a McNeese record and tied a Southland Conference record with nine 3-pointers.  Perry also tied a school record by making 14 field goals in the game.  Perry shot 56.0 percent (14-25) from the field, 90 percent (9-10) from 3-pt. range and 66.7 percent (2-3) from the free throw line.  Perry also led the Cowgirls in scoring in a 76-74 victory over Centenary Monday.  Perry scored a game-high 25 points, shot 41.2 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range.  Perry was 7 of 17 from the field, 4 of 8 from three-point land and made seven of eight free throws.  Perry also grabbed five rebounds.  Perry came up with a crucial steal late in the game to secure the victory.  The Cowgirls are off to the second best start in the last ten years. 

 

This week’s honorable mentions are Kristy Carlin, SLU; Candice Champion, UTA; Monica Gibbs, UTSA. To receive an honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland women’s basketball sports information directors.

 

Each school’s SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for their own player.
