As one of the nation's newest and innovative broadcast opportunities, the Southland Conference Television Network became a reality in 2008 and brought 35 broadcast events to regional and national viewers during the 2008-09 season. A total of eight football games, 16 basketball games along with the championship games of the Southland volleyball and baseball tournaments were featured on the network that served numerous televison stations and cable systems in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, as well as national audiences on ESPN FullCourt and Fox College Sports.

“We’re very excited about the second season of Southland Network programming,” Southland Conference commissioner Tom Burnett said. “The league had more total television productions in 2008-09 than ever before, and the Network will feature even more live football this year.”

In 2009-10, Southland TV is making plans for its second year of high-quality sports programming and will televise 31 live events, including 11 football games, 16 basketball games and the championship games from the soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball conference tournaments.

“We could have never imagined the fantastic response the Network has received from our affiliates, sponsors and viewers during the first year,” Burnett said. “It’s obvious that this is desired programming, and we look forward to televising more and more.”

The Southland Conference plans to announce affiliate agreements before the football season kicks off in September. Be sure to visit the Southland Web site to check for all affiliate information and announcements.

All network programming will be available for free on SLC NOW, the Southland’s streaming video channel on its Web site: southland.org. SLC NOW will also stream live all tournament games from the soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball tournaments.
