Southland Conference Announces Football Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin junior quarterback Zach Conque, Lamar senior cornerback Brendan Langley and Central Arkansas senior placekicker Jace Denker earned Southland Conference Football Player of the Week honors presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday. Conque took offensive honors while Langley was named defensive player of the week and Denker was tabbed the top special teams player.
 
Offensive Player of the Week:  Zach Conque, Stephen F. Austin
Conque led the charge for the Stephen F. Austin offense that racked up a season-high 671 yards of offense in the Lumberjacks’ 55-20 win over Houston Baptist. The junior from Little Rock, Ark. (Catholic H.S.), accounted for 323 yards of total offense and five touchdowns in only two and a half quarters of play. Conque went 20-for-30 passing for 270 yards and three touchdowns while rushing the ball four times for 53 yards and two touchdowns. Conque three touchdown passes of 10, 8 and 34 yards while running for scores of 40 yards and one yard.
 
Honorable Mention: Landry Klann, Nicholls; Kade Harrington, Lamar; Cory Avery, Sam Houston State.
 
Defensive Player of the Week:  Brendan Langley, Lamar
Langley’s play on the defense end of the ball helped Lamar defeat UIW 28-21 in a hard-fought conference game. The junior from Marietta, Ga. (Kell H.S.), returned an interception 86 yards for a touchdown, which broke a 7-7 tie, and changed the momentum of the game. Langley also had seven total tackles, including six solo, and had three pass breakups in the victory.
 
Honorable Mention:  Bryson Gates, Abilene Christian; Troy Lara, UIW.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week: Jace Denker, Central Arkansas
Denker, a senior from Bryant, Ark. (Bryant H.S.), had a perfect day kicking for Central Arkansas in the Bears’ 34-31 win against Nicholls. Denker connected on field goals of 30 and 33 yards while also going a perfect 4-for-4 on PATs.
 
Honorable Mention: Mason Juhl, Stephen F. Austin; Harlan Miller, Southeastern Louisiana.
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
