FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi junior forward Rashawn Thomas has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.

Thomas led A&M-Corpus Christi to its sixth consecutive non-conference win with an 85-79 victory over Texas-San Antonio. The junior from Oklahoma City, Okla. (Southeast H.S.), scored 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win over the Roadrunners. Thomas, who matched his career high with 30 points, is the only player in the conference with multiple 30-point games this season. His nine rebounds and two blocks helped him stay atop the league rankings with 8.9 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game average.

Honorable mention this week goes to Houston Baptist sophomore center Josh Ibarra and Lamar freshman guard Nick Garth.

Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
