Nicholls’ Frye Named Southland Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls junior forward Ja’Dante’ Frye has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
Frye averaged 19 points and five rebounds in two games at the Las Vegas Classic as Nicholls defeated Hampton 84-81 before falling to Canisius in the championship. In the win against Hampton, the junior from Thibodaux, La. (E.D. White H.S.), scored 21 points while pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out two assists. Frye, who is second in the conference in scoring (17.9), shot 51.9 percent (15-for-29) from the field and 42.9 percent (3-for-7) from behind the arc in the two games for the Colonels.
Honorable mention this week goes to Stephen F. Austin senior forward Clide Geffrard, Southeastern Louisiana junior guard Joshua Filmore and New Orleans junior guard Christavious Gill.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
