Sinibaldi, Preston Named Southland Baseball Players of the Week
FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls junior right-hander Justin Sinibaldi has been named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week and Central Arkansas junior shortstop Logan Preston has been named the Southland hitter of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Sinibaldi shut down one of the top programs in the country, throwing six scoreless innings in a 10-0 win over the preseason American East favorite, Stony Brook. Sinibaldi threw four strikeouts and allowed just four hits with a 0.00 ERA and .211 opponent batting average on opening weekend.
Preston made his 2015 with three home runs in three games to earn co-Most Outstanding Player honors at the ULM Warhawk Classic. Preston hit a pair of home runs in the opener in three at bats and tallying three RBI. His final homer came in the final game of the tournament as the junior hits .556 with a1.556 slugging percentage as the Bears opened the season 3-0.
Honorable mention for hitter of the week goes to Houston Baptist senior outfielder Zach Nehrir and McNeese State junior catcher Cameron Toole. Honorable mention for pitcher of the week goes to Sam Houston State junior left-hander Logan Boyd, Southeastern Louisiana junior right-hander Jake Johnson and UIW junior left-hander Garret Cooper.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
