FRISCO, Texas – Central Arkansas Riley Echols has been named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week and Southeastern Louisiana sophomore outfielder Jacob Seward has been named the Southland hitter of the week, the league office announced Monday.
 
Echols beat Wichita State in a mid-week match up and conference opponent Lamar, pitching 14.1 innings, allowing one run, striking out nine and walking two batters. At Wichita State, he allowed just three hits and one run in 7.1 innings pitched. When facing Lamar, Echols allowed seven hits, but zero run crossed the plate while throwing five strikeouts and not giving up a walk.
 
Seward led the Lions in hitting this past week, turning in multi-hit performances in all four games. The sophomore from New Orleans, Louisiana, also walked three times and was hit by a pair of pitches, reaching bases 14 out of the 18 times he came to the plate. He did not strike out. He picked up an RBI in three of Southeastern's four games and stole three bases. Seward scored five runs, including a pair of runs in each of the Lions' wins over Abilene Christian.
 
Honorable mention for hitter of the week goes to Central Arkansas senior outfielder Wesley Hoover, McNeese State senior outfielder James Cantu, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior right-fielder Kyle Dandord. Honorable mention for pitcher of the week goes to Northwestern State sophomore right-hander Adam Oller, Southeastern Louisiana left-hander Kyle Credotal and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Matt Danton.
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
