Gilmore, Lee Named Southland Baseball Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Central Arkansas junior right-hander Connor Gilmore has been named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior left fielder Jordan Lee has been named the Southland hitter of the week, the league office announced Monday.
 
Gilmore threw his third consecutive complete game victory, holding the Colonels to four hits in nine innings pitched.  Gilmore held batters to a .125 batting average without giving up a run or walking any batters. The junior improved to 5-2 with a 2.43 ERA on the year.
 
Lee put together a career week on the diamond as he led the Islanders to a 4-1 record. The senior led the team with a .579 (11-of-19) batting average and a slugging percentage of 1.053 as he hit two home runs in back-to-back games versus the Abilene Christian. Lee also drew five walks for a .667 on-base percentage and didn’t strikeout once. The outfielder scored a total of nine times during the week and drove in five runs. He also showed his speed on the base paths with three stolen bases.
 
Honorable mention for hitter of the week goes to Northwestern State senior third baseman Chase Daughdrill and Houston Baptist junior shortstop Louie Payetta. Honorable mention for pitcher of the week goes to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior left-hander Trevor Belicek, Sam Houston State sophomore right-hander Sam Odom and McNeese State sophomore right-hander Collin Kober.
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
