No. 8 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Upsets No. 1 Southeastern Louisiana

SUGAR LAND, Texas No. 8 seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi upset tournament favorite Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday with a 4-2 victory at Constellation Field.
 
In the bottom of the second inning, sophomore Ryan Byers doubled to right center to score junior Julian Service from first base to put the Lions on the board, 1-0.
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sophomore Zacarias scored on a throwing error to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning, 1-1. Sophomore Brett Burner singled up the middle to drive in two runs and extend the Islanders’ lead, 3-1.
 
With two runners on in the seventh inning, sophomore Carson Crites doubled over the shortstop to score junior Chris Eades to close the Islanders’ lead, 3-2.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi senior Jordan Lee opened the eighth inning with a single and  advanced to second on a wild pitch from right-hander senior Kyle Keller, who started the inning for the Lions. Senior Tyler Ware singled and advanced on the throw as Lee scored to give the Islanders a 4-2 lead.
 
The Lions put a runner on first, but A&M-Corpus Christi turned a double play with Byers at the plate who struck out swinging to give the Islanders the win.
 
Senior Trevor Belicek improved to 9-4 on the season with the Islanders giving up 2 runs to the Lions.
 
No. 8 A&M-Corpus Christi advances to take on the winner of No. 4 McNeese State and No. 5 Sam Houston State Thursday at 7 p.m. No. 1 Southeastern Louisiana will face the loser of McNeese and Sam Houston Thursday at noon.
