No. 5 Sam Houston State Continues in Winners Bracket

SUGAR LAND, Texas No. 5 Sam Houston State defeated No. 8 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 6-1 early Friday morning at Constellation Field to advance in the 2015 Conference Tournament.
 
Sam Houston State senior Colt Atwood went 3-for-3 with one run while five other Bearkats picked up hits. Left-handed junior Logan Boyd picked up the win, striking out five batters in six innings pitched. Atwood became the all-time leader in hits in Sam Houston State history with 293 career hits.
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was the first on the board with a RBI double from sophomore Zacarias Hardy as Jordan Lee rounded the bases to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead over Sam Houston State.
 
Sam Houston State answered back with two runs from freshman Bryce Johnson and Atwood off of three hits in the third inning to lead 2-1.
 
Senior Hayden Simerly singled up the middle to score freshman Bryce Johnson in the eighth inning to extend the Islanders’ lead, 3-1. Senior Jake MacWilliams and junior Zach Smith each singled for an RBI as the Bearkats led 5-1 with one out.
 
 
No. 5 Sam Houston State will face the winner of No. 1 Southeastern Louisiana and No. 8 A&M-Corpus Christi Friday at 7 p.m.
