White, Grant Named Volleyball Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Sam Houston State sophomore Brooke White was named Southland Conference Women’s Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week while Lamar junior Chelsea Grant was named Defensive Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com to begin the 2015 season, the league announced Monday.
 
Offensive Player of the Week – Brook White, Sam Houston State
White was named to the all-tournament team at the 27th Annual Sam Houston State Invitational after leading the Bearkats to a 3-1 record. The Fort Worth, Texas (All Saints Episcopal H.S.), native led Sam Houston in points (66) and in scoring of each match. White totaled 59 kills in 15 sets over the weekend and had a hitting percentage of .255.
 
Honorable Mention:  Kayla Armer, Houston Baptist; Madeline Doud, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi; Heather Schnars, Central Arkansas; Cortney Moore, Lamar.  
 
Defensive Player of the Week – Chelsea Grant, Lamar
Grant was crowned most valuable player at the Lamar Invitational after her performance on both sides of the net. The Killeen, Texas (Ellison H.S.), native was the tournament leader in blocks (15) and blocks per set (1.50). She was the leader of a front wall that accounted for 29 blocks in 10 sets.
 
Honorable Mention: Kate Klepetka, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi; Claire Kilpatrick, Sam Houston State; O.J. Olson, Stephen F. Austin.
 
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
