HBU’s Odunsi Named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Houston Baptist senior guard Anthony Odunsi has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced Monday.
Odunsi averaged 23 points, 4.5 rebounds and three assists in leading Houston Baptist to a 2-0 record on the week with wins over Ecclesia (101-47) and Northwestern State (99-73). The senior from Sugar Land, Texas (Travis H.S.), had a career-high 27 points in the conference-opening win against Northwestern State. Odunsi shot an impressive 64 percent (7-for-11) from the field against the Demons, including going 2-for-3 from behind the arc. He also made 11 of his 12 free throw attempts in the league contest while shooting 91.7 percent (22-for-24) from the charity stripe for the week.
Honorable mention this week goes to UIW senior guard Kyle Hittle, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi senior guard Hameed Ali and Abilene Christian freshman forward Jaren Lewis.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
