LAKE CHARLES, La. – Top-seeded McNeese (40-12, 23-4 Southland) defeated fifth-ranked Stephen F. Austin (26-28, 13-13 Southland) Wednesday evening at the Cowgirl Diamond on the campus of McNeese in Lake Charles, La. The Cowgirls advance to the third round to take on third-seeded Lamar.
In the third inning, the Cowgirls got off to a 3-0 lead when McNeese sophomore designated player Morgan Catron hit a three-run homer.
Sophomore center Taylor Fraccastoro gave the Lumberjacks a two-run home run in the bottom of the second.
McNeese put the game away in the bottom of the sixth with five runs from two hits and three Ladyjack errors.
McNeese will now take on third-seeded Lamar (33-12, 18-9 Southland) in the winners bracket semifinals tomorrow afternoon; first pitch is slated for 4 p.m. Two weeks ago, McNeese won the series, 2-1, in Beaumont.
SFA will now play in tomorrow morning’s opening back draw game against No. 6 seed Sam Houston State. Game time is set for 11 a.m. In their last series of the regular season, the Bearkats defeated the Ladyjacks in Nacogdoches.
