Vasterling, Quiroga Named Cross Country Athletes of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana freshman Ben Vasterling and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sophomore Cynthia Quiroga received Cross Country Athletes of the Week honors presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league announced Tuesday.
Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week – Ben Vasterling, Southeastern Louisiana
Vasterling made his collegiate debut at the New Orleans Invitational by posting the fastest individual time for Southeastern Louisiana in the 4K with a mark of 13:06.01. The freshman from Geismer, La. (Dutchtown H.S.), teamed up with sophomore Brett Olivier for the fastest team time of 26:32.50 in the two-man 8K relay. Vasterling helped the Lions take first place as a team.

Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week – Cynthia Quiroga, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Quiroga earned her first career victory at the South Texas Showdown Cross Country Duel by finishing ahead of her closest competitor by 13 seconds. The sophomore from San Antonio, Texas (Lee H.S.), recorded a time of 11:29.29 in the 3.2K to pace the Islanders.
