Southland Softball Pitcher and Co-Hitters of the Week

PLANO, Texas -- Three players have been voted Southland Conference Softball Players of the Week as pitcher Melissa Collins of Sam Houston State earns her first league recognition of the year while junior outfielders Autumn Petrino of Texas-Arlington and Texas-San Antonio's Stacey Gillespie are co-hitters of the week.
The following is a look at their performances the week of April 11-17 along with a list of players named to the weekly honor rolls.
SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
PITCHER
Melissa Collins, Sam Houston State
Sophomore - Splendora, Texas
Collins won two of the games and had a save in the third as Sam Houston State swept its series with McNeese State to remain in a tie for first place.
In SHSU's first game, an extra inning 1-0 victory, Collins threw her first collegiate no-hitter, striking out nine Cowgirls. Collins got the save in the second victory (also 1-0), and the win in Sunday's 8-2 victory. For the weekend, Collins pitched 13 innings, struck out 14 and walked two.

CO-HITTERS
Autumn Petrino, Jr., OF, Texas-Arlington (Rowlett, Texas)
Stacey Gillespie, Jr., OF, Texas-San Antonio (Round Rock, Texas)
UTA's Petrino led the Lady Mavericks to a two-games-to-one series win over visiting Stephen F. Austin, batting .714 on the weekend. The junior plated the first run of the opening game with a two-out double to left center. Petrino was 2-for-2 with a walk in the nightcap and 1-for-2 with two walks, two RBIs and a run scored in Sunday's finale. Petrino was intentionally walked to load the bases in the finale after being retired only once to that point
UTSA's Gillespie went on a tear last week, batting .786 (11-for-14) with a double, a triple, five runs, five RBI, a 1.000 slugging percentage, an .824 on-base percentage and one stolen base. She collected three hits, including an RBI double that got things going in a 6-3 win at Louisiana Tech. She also had three hits, including a two-run triple in a 5-0 win at Louisiana-Monroe. She added two hits and an RBI in the other two victories at ULM, helping the Roadrunners go 5-0 on the week and win their ninth straight game overall and their 10th consecutive conference contest. Gillespie is now batting a team-best .481 in 20 SLC games.
