Two More Football Games Called Off

PLANO, Texas - Two more Southland Conference football games scheduled for Saturday have been cancelled due to the threat of Hurricane Rita. Sam Houston State was to host Missouri State in Huntsville, Texas, while Nicholls State was to entertain Western Carolina. Three games have now been cancelled and a fourth moved to tonight.

The cancellations add to a long list of sporting events already called off.

Included are six SLC volleyball matches, six non-conference soccer games and a cross country invitational.

In addition, Texas A&M announced Wednesday that its football game versus SLC-member Texas State University, originally scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m., will be played tonight at 7:40. The contest will be televised on FSN-Southwest.

On Wednesday, McNeese State cancelled Saturday's football game against Northwestern Oklahoma State. It is the second home game of the season the Cowboys have lost as their season-opener against Southern University on Sept. 3 was also lost due to Hurricane Katrina.

Lamar and McNeese State have cancelled two home volleyball matches each, scheduled for Friday and Saturday against Texas State and Texas-San Antonio. In addition, SHSU and SFA have postponed SLC matches at Texas-Arlington.

Sam Houston State's home soccer game with Prairie View A&M on Friday has been cancelled while its game at TCU on Sunday has been postponed for Sept. 30. In addition, McNeese State's road soccer game at Louisiana Tech and home tilt against Houston on Sunday have been cancelled.

Texas-San Antonio has cancelled its cross country invitational which was scheduled for Saturday.
