Texas State's Barrick Nealy Signs Free-Agent Contract

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State quarterback Barrick Nealy was signed as a free agent by the Minnesota Vikings following Sunday's conclusion to the NFL draft.

Nealy, the 2005 Southland Conference Player of the Year, completed 208-of-363 passes for 2,875 yards and 21 touchdowns and was also a major threat when rushing the ball, gaining 1,057 yards on the ground on 159 carries.

One of only two Bobcats selected to play in the 2006 Hula Bowl, Nealy finished his three-year career as Texas State's all-time career passing and total offense leader, throwing for 7,206 yards and 52 touchdowns and accumulated 8,933 yards of total offense during his career.

Nealy was named to the All-Southland Conference First Team and finished fifth in the voting for the Walter Payton Award which goes to the nation's top Division I-AA offensive player.

He was also named to the 2005 Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA I-AA Southwest All-Region team as well as selected to the publication's All-America Second-Team.

Nealy joins Fred Evans, who was picked in the seventh round by Miami, in representing the 2005 Bobcat seniors that have been picked up by an NFL franchise so far.
