CONWAY, Ark. - University of Central Arkansas quarterback Nathan Brown racked up several Player of the Week honors on Monday, including two national awards.

Brown, a 6-foot-2, 209-pound junior from Russellville, was named the national Offensive Player of the Week by College Sporting News and the co-Offensive Player of the Week by The Sports Network. He was also the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Brown completed 16 of 20 passes for 313 yards and a school-record 7 touchdowns in last Thursday’s 63-21 victory over Texas State on Fox Sports Southwest.

Brown, who’s seven-touchdown performance was named ESPN’s No. 1 Play of the Day last Thursday, threw six touchdown passes in the first half, then returned for one series in the second half and set the record. The eight total touchdown passes by the Bears tied the Southland Conference single-game record.

"This is a tremendous honor for this young man,’ said UCA head coach Clint Conque, "and it is also great for our football team and our university.

"It says a lot about our offensive football team, that individual players can receive national honors such as these.’

Tight end Marquez Branson caught three of the touchdown passes, while Brent Grimes and Willie Landers caught two each as the Bears rolled up a season-high 662 yards of total offense against the Bobcats. The Bears had 382 yards of offense in the first half alone, with Brown tossing six touchdown passes.

In the past three games, Brown has thrown for 1,060 yards and 12 touchdown with no interceptions. He has completed 70 of 98 passes (71 percent). He broke his own record of six touchdown passes in a game he held jointly with Andy Rogers.
