NATCHITOCHES, La. – No. 2 seed Stephen F. Austin got a second half goal from Kelli Wilson off an assist from Summer Bradfield and made it stand up, as the Ladyjacks defeated No. 3 UTSA, 1-0, in match four of the SLC Women’s Soccer Tournament tonight.
With the win, Stephen F. Austin (12-4-2) advances to the championship match at 1 p.m., on Sunday. The Ladyjacks advance to the championship match for the first time since 2003, also the year they last won the title.
The first half was scoreless, despite a 10-7 edge in shots for Stephen F. Austin.
Wilson’s ninth goal of the season came at the 46:52 mark of the second half.
Crystin Pactor recorded her fifth shutout of the season for the Ladyjacks, making seven saves.
Stephen F. Austin finished the match with a 15-14 edge in shots, with Wilson leading the squad with five shots, including three on goal.
UTSA’s season comes to a close at 9-9-2, with Veronica Najera and Alli Dillon finishing with three shots each.
Match Three:
No. 1 McNeese State 1, No. 5 Southeastern Louisiana 0
NATCHITOCHES, La. – No. 1 seed McNeese State began defense of its SLC Tournament title with a 1-0 victory over No. 5 seed Southeastern Louisiana in match three on the league tournament today.
With the win, the Cowgirls improve to 12-4-4 and advance to championship match at 1 p.m., Sunday for the second-straight year. McNeese State is also the first No. 1 seed to reach the championship match since Southeastern Louisiana in 2003.
After a scoreless first half, Kamryn Koch netted her 16th goal of the season at the 56:14 mark off an assist by Cynthia Torres, which went through the right side of the net.
McNeese State finished with an 11-9 advantage in shots, including 6-1 in the second period.
Two players finished with three shots for McNeese State, Mayra Torres and Koch. Shelby Money finished with her sixth shutout of the season in goal, posting two saves.
Southeastern Louisiana was led by three shots from Lindsey Dyck and ends its season at 10-7-3.
