Former Texas State Track Standout Mike Hazle Will Participate In The 2007 Pan American Games
CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Former Texas State track star Mike Hazle will represent the United States at the 2007 IAAF World Championships and the 2007 Pan American Games this summer in the javelin, USA Track and Field officials announced on Wednesday.
Hazle qualified for both events after finishing in second place out of 20 competitors at the 2007 AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend with a throw of 75.06 meters (246-03).
The IAAF World Championships will be held in Osaka, Japan, from August 25-September 2, while the Pan American Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 13-29.
Hazle becomes the second Texas State male track athlete to qualify for the IAAF World Championships. Edgar Baumann qualified for the event from 1993-95 and also competed in the men's javelin. Hazle also becomes the third Bobcat to qualify for the Pan American Games, as Scott Hennig and Roger Borbon competed in the 1999 games.
As a student-athlete at Texas State, Hazle won the javelin event at the 2002 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships. He also recorded a mark of 72.05 meters (236-5) during the 2002 season that ranks as the third-longest javelin mark in Bobcat track and field history. In total, Hazle owns three of the 10 longest javelin throws in the Bobcat record book.
He earned a B.S. degree in Exercise Sports Science and Business and a Master's Degree in Sports Management from Texas State. Hazle currently trains full-time as a Resident Athlete at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
