Cave and Hamilton Voted Southland Volleyball Players of the Week

FRISCO, Texas ? Texas State sophomore Melinda Cave and Lamar senior Andrea Hamilton were recognized by vote of the Southland’s volleyball sports information directors as players of the week for October 27. Cave follows teammate Lawrencia Brown giving Texas State consecutive awards and three in the last four weeks, each by a different player. Hamilton joins teammate Lauren Holdroff as the only Lady Cardinal recipients this season.

 

Offensive Player of the Week - Melinda Cave, Texas State

Cave helped lead the Bobcats to a 2-0 sweep over the weekend, and a two-way tie for first place in the Southland West Division. She had her second highest career attack percentage of .581, with a season high 19 kills and only one error in the win over Nicholls State and helped hold Southeastern Louisiana to a hitting percentage of .038. She averaged 3.12 kills a game over the two-day sweep, leading the Bobcats with the most kills, and moved up to third in the conference in hitting percentage with .382.

Defensive Player of the Week - Andrea Hamilton, Lamar

Hamilton was the driving force for the Lady Cardinals defense in Saturday’s win over Stephen F. Austin, picking up a match-high and personal season-best 28 digs for a 5.6 digs per-set average. In Friday’s win at McNeese State she registered double-digit digs with 12 to lead Lamar.
