Lamar Advances to Southland Volleyball Semifinals

NACOGDOCHES, Texas ? Lamar University advanced to the Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament semifinals (25-27, 27-25, 25-14, 25-16) in a 3-1 decision over Nicholls State.

No. 2 seed Lamar was led by senior middle blocker Shalayne Blythe with a team-high 13 kills. Blythe ended the regular-season as the team leader in kills with 228. Senior outside hitter Meagan Adams had 12 kills and second team all-conference selection junior outside hitter Kaci Brewer added 12 kills.  

No. 7 seed Nicholls State was led by senior outside hitter Chelsey Adams with 13 kills, her third-highest kill total this season. The Lady Colonels had four players record 10 or more kills. Freshman setter Rachel Yezak had 12, junior outside hitter Manieka Golden had 11 and senior outside hitter Mallory McInnis turned in 11 kills.

Lamar coach Justin Gibert improves to 2-3 in Southland tournament play.

Lamar advances to the semifinals and will face match one winner No. 6 seed McNeese State. Match time is scheduled to begin Saturday at 1 p.m. The winner will advance to the tournament title match on Sunday at 2 p.m.
