Lamar Advances to Southland Tournament Finals

NACOGDOCHES, Texas ? Second-seeded Lamar University won in semifinal action on Saturday over No. 6 seed McNeese State, 3-1 (23-25, 29-27, 22-25, 23-25) advancing to the Southland Volleyball Tournament championship match.  

Each set was decided by two points, making it the tightest match played thus far in the tournament.

Second team all-conference selections, Kaci Brewer and Ashley Todd led the Lady Cardinal offense.  Brewer knocked down a season-high 20 kills, for the first 20-kill match of the tournament. Todd and Adrianne Meengs recorded 23 and 20 assists respectively.

Junior Chanel Tyler led McNeese with 18 kills followed closely by teammate senior Alyson Jones with 17. Jones led the tournament effort for the Cowgirls recording 35 kills in two matches. Junior Sarah Cartie posted 83 of the team’s 99 assists in tournament play.

Lamar makes their eighth overall championship match appearance.

Lamar will face the winner of match six between top seed Texas State and fifth-seeded Sam Houston State. The championship match is scheduled to tip off Sunday at 2 p.m. The match will be televised on the Southland Conference Television Network.
