KWCE-TV Joins Southland Conference Television Network

FRISCO, Texas ? The Southland Conference and KWCE Television, Channel 27, in Alexandria, La., have agreed to have the station serve as the exclusive central Louisiana affiliate for the new Southland Conference Television Network, league and station officials announced Wednesday. The station, also known as RTN 27, is also an affiliate of the Retro Television Network.

 

“We are excited to have KWCE serve as the exclusive central Louisiana affiliate for the Southland Conference Television Network,” league commissioner Tom Burnett said. “We’re pleased that Alexandria area viewers will get the opportunity to view this unique and innovative television offering. We thank the KWCE ownership and management for showing a great deal of interest in the Southland Conference.”

 

KWCE, which is affiliated with local ABC affiliate KLAX-TV (Ch. 31), will carry all 36 telecasts of the league’s in-house television offering, including nine football games, 16 basketball games and a monthly magazine show, “Inside the Southland Conference,” which debuts in September. 

 

“We were extremely excited to learn about the formation of the Southland Conference Network, and anxious to become the media outlet for central Louisiana,” said Ken Nolan, general manager of KLAX and KWCE. “Our stations strive to bring viewers sports programming of interest to the region. KLAX is home to Southeastern Conference football and basketball, and we now can boast Southland Conference action on KWCE. Let’s play ball!” 

 

The Southland expects to announce numerous other affiliate agreements in the coming weeks.

 

 

About the Southland Conference Television Network

As one of the nation’s newest and innovative broadcast opportunities, the Southland Conference Television Network will televise 36 events during the 2008-09 academic year, providing the league and its institutions with one of the most unique and effective promotional vehicles in broadcast television. A total of nine football games and 16 basketball contests will be featured on the network that will serve numerous television stations and cable systems in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. The network will also televise the upcoming volleyball and baseball tournament championship games. And, the network package will include “Inside the Southland Conference,” a nine-episode monthly magazine show premiering in September that will highlight the great stories of success from the league’s 12 campuses and their surrounding communities.
