Brown and Shearin Earn SLC Weekly Volleyball Honors
FRISCO, Texas ? The Southland Conference announced its first volleyball players of the week for the 2008 season as Texas State senior Lawrencia Brown was awarded the league’s offensive player of the week and UT Arlington freshman Emily Shearin received defensive honors.
Offensive Player of the Week - Lawrencia Brown, Texas State
Brown reached the 1,000 digs club for her career (1,016) while guiding the Bobcats to a second-place finish in the CenturyTel Premier in San Marcos, Texas. Brown led the Bobcats to a league’s best start of 3-1 and was named to the all-tournament team after posting a team high 42 kills and 42 digs in four matches.

Defensive Player of the Week - Emily Shearin, UT Arlington
After the first weekend of play Shearin leads the conference in total blocks with 16 in route to a second-place finish at the Mean Green Classic in Denton, Texas. Shearin’s defense lead UTA to a 2-1 start including a win over tournament host North Texas.
