FRISCO, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi guard/forward Kevin Palmer has been named the Southland Conference men's basketball player of the week, the league office announced Monday. It is the second time this season Palmer has earned the award.

Palmer extended his streak of scoring in double figures to 40 games with a season-high 32 points in an 81-64 Islander win at Lamar last Wednesday and 18 in a 66-62 overtime victory at UTSA. Against Lamar, the senior from Baltimore, Md. (Parkville), posted the fourth 30-point game of his career. He was 12-of-22 from the field including 4-of-8 from behind the 3-point arc. Palmer tied his season-high with five steals against the Cardinals. Against UTSA, he overcame first-half foul trouble to score 16 of his 18 points after the intermission. Palmer, who also was the league's player of the week Nov. 16, is averaging 20.9 points per game this season and is one of two Southland players averaging more than 20 points per game.

Honorable mention this week goes to Nicholls guard/forward Anatoly Bose, McNeese State forward Patrick Richard, Sam Houston State guard Corey Allmond and Northwestern State forward Will Pratt. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland men's basketball sports information directors.

Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
