FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference Television Network will televise 17 men's and women's basketball games during the 2010-11 season, the league office announced Thursday.

"We are very pleased to offer one of the largest basketball television packages in league history," said Tom Burnett, the commissioner of the Southland Conference. "As the quality of men's and women's basketball continues to improve, it's very important that the Southland Television Network provide our fans the access to view so many great games."

The third-year network will televise a total of 17 basketball games this season, including five games at the 2011 State Farm Southland Conference Tournament in Katy, Texas, in March. The two women's semifinal games and the two men's semifinal games, as well as the women's tournament championship game, are included in the package. The men's championship game will be televised by ESPN2.

That leaves the network a total of 12 regular-season games. Southland TV will broadcast 11 men's games and six women's games. All 12 men's teams will make an appearance on the network this season and Nicholls, Sam Houston State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas State each will make two appearances during the regular season. Half of the league's women's teams also will make regular-season appearances on the network.

For the first time, the network will televise a pair of non-conference basketball games, including the Texas A&M vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi game Nov. 15 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, and the University of Houston vs. Sam Houston State game Dec. 4 in Huntsville.

The first conference telecast will be Jan. 8 when the Lamar men's team visits Central Arkansas at 2 p.m. The following Saturday, the network will televise Nicholls at Sam Houston State, also at 2 p.m. The McNeese State and Northwestern State men's and women's teams will play a doubleheader on Jan. 22 in Natchitoches, La. The men's game will tipoff at 2 p.m. and the women's game will follow at 4:30 p.m. The men's teams from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Stephen F. Austin close out the month, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m.

The network will alternate men's and women's games during February Saturdays. The women's teams from UTSA and Lamar, which have won the last two conference tournament championships, will meet in Beaumont, Texas, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. UT Arlington will visit Texas State Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. before the Texas State women play at Stephen F. Austin Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. The final two Saturdays of the regular season will feature UTSA at Texas State on Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. and Nicholls at Southeastern Louisiana March 5 at noon.

As one of the nation's newest and innovative broadcast opportunities, the award-winning Southland Conference Television Network became a reality in 2008 and has broadcast nearly 70 events to its affiliates in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. The network has already received a College Sports Media Award at the College Sports Video Summit in Atlanta as well as three prestigious Telly Awards. The network is televising a total of 10 football games this fall and will also televise the championship games for the baseball, soccer, softball and volleyball conference tournaments.

All network programming will also be available for free on SLC NOW, the Southland's streaming media player on its website, to those who register on Southland.org.
