UTSA Wins First Southland Conference Tournament Title

SAN MARCOS, Texas - For the first time in school history, the UTSA Roadrunners won the Southland Conference tournament championship match after a 1-0 win in overtime against top-seeded Southeastern Louisiana. All-tournament selection, Maria Jose Rojas scored the game-winning goal for UTSA in the 93rd minute and will now advance to its first NCAA Women's College Cup.

The Division I Women's College Cup selection show will air on Monday, Nov. 8 at approximately 3:30 p.m. on ESPNU. UTSA will find its first round matchup at that time. First round matches will be held on Nov. 12.

In the first half, Southeastern Louisiana's Cambri Prevost led the team after recording three shots on goal with teammate Karly Dagys with two shots.. UTSA goalkeeper and tournament MVP Dacia Webb had one save. For UTSA, All-Tournament honoree Anka Grotle and Taylor Padia and pair of teammates each made one shot on goal. Southland Conference Co-Player of the Year Lacey Bockhaus had one save in the half for the Lady Lions.

The second half ended with a 0-0 tie with UTSA taking 11 second half shots compared to Southeastern Louisiana's five shots.

In overtime, UTSA worked quickly after a pass from Padia, all-tournament selection Rojas took the ball, dribbled towards the goal and nailed a shot to the back right corner past Bockhaus. 

UTSA improves its record to 13-7-2.
