FRISCO, Texas - When Central Arkansas and Northwestern State meet Saturday at Turpin Stadium they will be playing to remain in the hunt not only for a Southland Conference championship, but also a potential berth into the NCAA Division I playoffs. With all that on the line there is no doubt it is the Toyota Game of the Week on the Southland Conference Television Network. Coverage begins at 3 p.m. with kickoff slated for just five minutes later.

The Bears are 6-3 overall and 5-1 in Southland play and are riding a five-game win streak into its final conference game of the season. After the game with the Demons, only a non-conference game vs. Texas State remains. Northwestern State is 5-3 overall and 3-1 in league games and has won its last three games after a 2-3 start to the season that included losses at LSU and SMU. After playing Central Arkansas, the Demons have a game at Sam Houston State before playing host to rival Stephen F. Austin. A win by either team would keep it in contention for the championship with two games to play.

Central Arkansas recorded season highs with 586 yards of total offense and 292 yards on the ground in a 55-29 victory over Southeastern Louisiana last Saturday. Quarterback Nathan Dick threw five touchdown passes in the game to increase his season total to 22. The senior from Allen, Texas, has completed 66.4 percent of his passes (156 of 235) for 2,017 yards and is averaging 252.1 passing yards per game, the third best total in Southland. Jesse Grandy and Dominique Croom each have caught six touchdown passes. Grandy leads the Bears with 35 catches for 577 yards, an average of 64.1 yards per game while Croom has 32 receptions for 458 yards and an average of 50.9 yards per game. UCA ranks second in the Southland in scoring offense (33.7 points) and passing efficiency (152.1) and ranks third in passing offense (265.8). It is also the league's most efficient in the red-zone having scored on 23 of 28 possessions, including 16 touchdowns and seven field goals.

Northwestern State made four red-zone stops to pick up a non-conference victory at Texas State last Saturday. Quarterback Brad Henderson completed 14 of 25 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown as the Demons won for the third consecutive game. Henderson has completed 63.7 percent of his passes (123 of 193) for 1,308 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. Of its 300.4 total yards per game, Northwestern is averaging 171.6 passing yards. Tight end Justin Aldredge has caught 28 passes for 390 yards and two touchdowns. Receiver Louis Hollier caught his second touchdown of the season last week at Texas State. He has 20 receptions for 139 yards. Nine different receivers have caught touchdown passes. D.J. Palmer is the team's leading rusher, averaging 34.5 yards per game. Defensively, the Demons rank second in the conference holding opponents to just 22.0 points per game. Northwestern also rank second against the run, allowing just 121.6 rushing yards per game.

This will be the fifth all-time meeting between Central Arkansas and Northwestern State with each team winning twice. The Demons won last year in Conway, upsetting the No. 22 Bears, 24-19, to spark the team to a four-game win streak.

Randy McIlvoy, sports director at KPRC-TV in Houston, will handle football play-by-play duties and will be joined in the booth by color analyst Shea Walker, a former Texas A&M standout and veteran broadcaster for the last 17 years. Jane Slater, a reporter for WFAA-TV and KRLD-AM in Dallas, will serve as the sideline reporter.
