UTSA Downs Southeastern Louisiana in Double-Overtime

NATCHITOCHES, La. - In the final match of opening day of the Southland Conference Women's Soccer Tournament at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex in Natchitoches, La., No. 4 seed UTSA needed extra time to defeat No. 5 seed Southeastern Louisiana, 1-0. The Roadrunners improve to 9-8-2 on the year while the Lady Lions finish the season at 11-7-1.

In the 108th of play, midfielder Liv Nyhegn assisted Maria Jose Rojas for the golden goal winner. It was Rojas' ninth goal on the season and Nyhegn's fourth assist on the season.

UTSA outshot Southeastern Louisiana 4-0 in overtime and 19-5 on the match. The Lady Lions goalkeeper Cassie Northrup recorded seven saves on the match compared to Danielle Snyder's three saves for the Roadrunners.

Southeastern Louisiana junior midfielder Karly Dagys had an opportunity to score the game's first goal in the 60th minute with a one-on-one opportunity but Snyder made diving save to keep the Lady Lions off the board.

UTSA responded in the 76th minute with its best scoring opportunity in the second half when Nyehgn's shot ricocheted off the crossbar and forwards Anissa Munson's rebound header bounced off the crossbar again.

UTSA advances to the tournament semifinals to take on top-seeded Stephen F. Austin, Friday at 7 p.m. The semifinal match between the Roadrunners and the Ladyjacks will be streamed live on SLC NOW on the Southland Conference website, southland.org.
