Lamar's James Named Southland Men's Basketball Player of the Week
FRISCO, Texas -
Lamar senior guard Mike James has been named the Southland Conference Men's
Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
James
averaged 21.0 points in helping the Cardinals win both of their games last
week. The senior from Portland, Ore. (Grant H.S.), scored a season-high 26
points in an 87-81 win at Rice. It marked the 900th victory in Lamar's program
history. James hit on all five of his 3-point attempts against the Owls and
scored 19 of his points in the first half. He also contributed with four steals
against Rice. Earlier in the week, Miles came off the bench to score 16 points
in just 18 minutes in a win against Huston-Tillotson on Dec. 14. He shot 51.9
percent (15-of-29) from the floor and was 6-for-10 from behind the arc.
Honorable
mention this week goes to Stephen F. Austin senior center Jereal Scott, McNeese
State senior forward Patrick Richard and Southeastern Louisiana senior guard
DeShawn Patterson. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes
from 25 percent of the Southland men's basketball sports information directors.
Each
school's sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the
week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player.
