Stephen F. Austin Unveils New Look for 2011
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin head coach J.C. Harper put the
Lumberjacks' new uniforms on display Wednesday at a Rotary luncheon Wednesday.
The new look also includes a redesign of the SFA helmet.
"When we began looking at new uniforms last year, I met with all of the
positions," Harper said. "We gave the guys some choices and this is what every one
of them wanted. It may not sound like much to most folks, but uniforms are
important to the kids. These guys are proud to be Lumberjacks, and proud of
these colors."
The biggest change fans will notice is the elimination of all red trim from the
new uniforms. SFA has gone with all black trim on the uniform, even replacing
the red in the logo with a black outline. The helmets have also gone with a
black facemask replacing the previously used red gear.
The new-look uniforms have SFA on the front of the jerseys, and on the sleeves.
SFA will still use all purple uniforms at home and the all white on the road,
but last season, coach Harper added a twist when the team wore white jerseys
and purple pants against Sam Houston State in the annual Battle of the Pine
Woods. The Lumberjacks also have the option of wearing the purple tops with the
white pants.
The Lumberjacks will open the 2011 season Sept. 1, when they play host to McMurry.
The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
