Lamar Notes: Lamar opened the season with a 58-0 victory over Texas College last Saturday ... its 58-point winning margin was the largest in school history, exceeding the 48 points by which the 1953 Cardinals won over Mexico Poly ... DePauldrick Garrett's 105-yard rushing effort against Texas College was Lamar's first 100-yard game since Danny Faust ran for 130 yards against West Texas A&M in 1989 ... Lamar totaled 320 yards on offense, including 209 yards rushing ... the Cardinal defense limited the Steers to five first downs (two by penalty), 45 rushing yards and a total of 64 yards on 51 plays for an average gain of 1.8 yards per play ... Lamar averaged 4.6 yards on 70 plays ... the Steers went 0-for-14 on third-down plays, and they never reached the red zone ... the Cardinals reached the red zone seven times and scored on six ... the only time they didn't score was in the game's final minute when they were inside the 10-yard line but opted to drain the clock and return possession to the Steers ... Lamar plays at South Alabama on Saturday and returns to Beaumont Sept. 17 to host Incarnate Word before an open date Sept. 24.

Stephen F. Austin Notes:
The Lumberjacks opened the season with an 82-6 victory over McMurry on Sept. 1 ... the 82-point outburst against McMurry was the second-highest point total in school history ... the SFA defense didn't allow a point with the War Hawks' only score coming off an interception returned for a touchdown ... playing without former QB Jeremy Moses proved to be no problem for the Lumberjacks in the season-opener as Brady Attaway and Dalton Williams combined to complete 45-of-63 (.714) passes for 507 yards and seven touchdowns ... SFA's 507 passing yards and 668 yards of total offense are the fifth-best single-game marks in school history ... the seven touchdown passes in the game ranks third in school history ... SFA also carried the ball 32 times for 161 yards, led by freshman Fred Ford and Gus Johnson ... Ford had 11 rushes for 102 yards and two touchdowns, while Johnson had five carries for 37 yards and a score ... Ford became the first back to hit the century mark since Vincent Pervis rushed for 125 yards in the playoffs against Eastern Washington in 2009 ... SFA hosts UNI on Saturday, the second of four non-conference games to open the season.
