Sam Houston State Football Student-Athlete Suspended for One Game
FRISCO,
Texas - The Southland Conference has imposed a one-game suspension
to Sam Houston State football student-athlete Mike Littleton as a result of a
personal foul he committed against a Central Arkansas student-athlete in last
Saturday's game played in Huntsville, Texas.
The
NCAA football playing rules require conferences to automatically review video
of unnecessary roughness acts that target the head or neck to determine if
additional sanctions are necessary.
"After
reviewing the video, the play was correctly called by the game officials as
unnecessary roughness-blow to the head," Southland Conference commissioner Tom
Burnett said. "Further, as called for by the NCAA football playing rules, the
conference has additionally confirmed the violation as a targeted hit to head
or neck area of a defenseless player and is issuing a one-game suspension to
Mr. Littleton. The Southland will always work to ensure the safety and
well-being of its student-athletes during competition."
Littleton
will be suspended for Sam Houston State's game at New Mexico on Saturday.
